Lesson 5 - Still Small Voice

Lesson 5-  Still Small Voice

The Still Small Voice

There are two specific ways that I believe the Still Small Voice speaks to us:

1.  Promptings

2.  Teaching

What are promptingsPromptings usually come in the form of inspiration or urges that show us

what to do with whom and when.

Teachings help us to relate to very specific things that we go through.  Teaching will bring clarification and often (ouch) attitude adjustments.  These teachings usually help to develop and to refine our spiritual perspective showing us the way to wholeness and bringing us to the place of joy in our lives.  The joy of the Lord is our strength.  That is a good place for us to remain!

Promptings of Love

Much of the time we think of the still small voice as a verbal type of communication and that is only natural but God really excels at non-verbal communication.  This non-verbal communication is not really words is it?  The best way that we might define it or describe it is that we feel or sense something like an energy source that just lets us know.  Our thought then become propelled in the direction of those promptings by the Spirit of God!

It is like waves of feelings that direct our attention towards a specific thought pattern.  For instance,  I had just begun to attend a new church several years ago and I like the new church it had great music and I like the pastor and it was a brand new building.  I even knew some of the people that were members.

I was asked to speak to the Ladies group and I was even invited to be a part of the Praise and Worship team.  I did not feel that I was to get involved in that way at that time, so I declined the offers.

I loved the churches program that they had for the children’s church and immediately began to bring my grandchildren with me.  They were very young at the time and they even had a great nursery for the ones that were babies or rather toddlers at the time.

We would get ready to go and start on the trip to the new church. The new church was out and down a country type road.  Every time that I would turn down that road, it was like I had  a thought and it was,” What about Victory?”  I even tried to ignore this prompting or urge.  Every time I started down that road I would get the same prompting, “What about Victory?”

Victory was the first church where I actually got my feet wet into ministry.  I was the Praise and Worship leader and I went through my first Bible School there for licensing and ordination.  It was back in the 1980’s. The name of the Church was Victory Chapel and then changed to Victory Life Church right before I left to begin my own church with my Father.

Each week that I turned down that road I would experience the same thing, “What about Victory?”  I even mentioned it to my daughter, Courtney.  I told her that I feel that I need to go back to Victory.  I did not want to go back.  I had left there with some bad memories because there had been some issues between my Father and the Pastor at the time.  My family had been hurt.  I did not have any grudges anymore and I had even visited the church and made amends but it was just not a place that I planned to go again, or so I thought?

These urges or promptings would not go away and so I determined that I must go back to find out what was going on there?  My daughter and I were sharing a car because her car had been in a wreck and totaled.  This particular morning she was not going to be able to attend church and I wanted to go but she also needed the car to go somewhere.

This morning we did not go to the other church and went directly to Victory.  I was driving and I passed the church because I did not feel like going in.  I did turn the car around and my daughter had to almost push me out the door to get me to go in.  She said, “Mom there is a reason for you being here and the people will show you love!”

I walked in the door and was immediately greeted by the Pastor’s daughter and then the Music Minister came over and she said, “Praise the Lord I have been praying that you would come back and take over as the Music Minister as I am moving to Ohio with my husband because he has found employment there.”  She said,” I am leaving in a little over a week!”

Another example that happened to my daughter this past week. My daughter, Jolie is a nursing

assistant and she cares for the elderly in a nursing home.  This particular night she went in to a ladies room and the lady spoke to her and was telling her how good she looked since she has lost over 100 pounds.  This lady was doing very well and they talked for a moment.  The other lady in the room was not doing so well as she had been having a stomach virus.  She was quietly sleeping at the time.

My daughter went on to do the remainder of her rounds and she kept having this urge that she needed to go back to the room where the lady had the stomach virus she was afraid that if the lady threw up she might get choked.  So before she was to leave and get off work that next morning she went in to check on the lady with the virus only to find that the other lady was unconscious and was as red as a beet!  She immediately went to work and called the nurse in.  The nurse said, “If she had gone one more hour she would have died!”  Thank God for that still

small voice.

I have been told that most urgings of the still small voice are mostly motives to love and since

God is love that makes a lot of sense.  He shows his love for others by performing mission through human beings.  We are his hands and his feet and his voice upon the earth.

Even God’s angels rely heavily on direct human-to-human service as they serve through the agency of using people to do their jobs.  That is why loving impulses abound in us or should if we are listening to that still small voice!

I have also heard that these promptings and urges have been coined with the name, “Love Notes From God!”  I think that is perfect!

Teachings and Clarity

To make spiritual progress there must be a continual establishment of clarity or revelation.  We must be able to understand things with crystal clear vision.  In addition to the promptings and the urgings, the still small voice offers us heavenly guidance that comes in the forms of insight and understanding.

These are some of those interesting messages that others have heard:

“It doesn’t matter what you do to change your own life; it only matters what you do to improve other peoples lives.”

“The way to fee accepted is to more fully accept others.”

Functions of the Still Small Voice

1.  Divine Connections

Let’s face it, it is not what you know but who you know that often makes the difference.  The fulfillment of many human prayers and needs come through the agency of other human beings.

Angels provide and arrange meetings of social connections and or business connections or even ministry connections.  These connections are not coincidental but they are instrumental in bringing about God’s purpose and plan on the earth.

The angels provide introduction services so that human desires and needs may be fulfilled so that the Lord’s divine plan can be furthered.

2.  Healing hurts and grievances

Angels understand the pain of holding grudges and having grievances.  So they take a very special interest in healing the negative emotions and attitudes that are stumbling blocks between other people.  They act as peacemakers in these difficult situations.

If you are a victim, you can heal the wound and actually bring forth deliverance as you are prompted by the still small voice to respond in love to those that have hurt you.  As you forgive them you release them to be healed and delivered.

3.  Providential Help

Say, a friend feels moved to make a random call to another friend.  The friend comments, “Your timing is perfect, I have a problem and I need someone to talk to.”

4.  Helping Strangers or Angels Unaware

You go shopping at the local market and you speak to the clerk and say, “You do such a lovely job here and I know that this is a very difficult place to work but you are always happy to see me and others when I come in. How do you do it?”  When you say things like that you have probably been urged or prompted by that still small voice.  You will never perhaps know what that meant to that clerk at the store.

The still small voice offers impulses of  God’s divine Love as we follow the urges we shall become instruments of God’s Peace and Good Will on earth to all men!

Homework:

This week is going to be a week of becoming aware of what is going on around you.  Just listen everywhere you go and pay attention...so that means that you need to stay focused on the Lord...in quiet times...you do not have to talk...just think on lovely things and the Lord....remain as silent as you can this week...and as the Lord prompts you...then share with someone the good news that he shall bring.  The Lord will tell you what to say at the right time.  Click here to record your homework on form!
